Help on shipping costs for multiple boxes for 1 listing
Looking for how to list shipping as selling set of heavy books in 3 boxes - how do I list for shipping as total weight over 70 pounds

Mentor1 year ago@friends.of.the.elm.grove.library Since the books are media mail it makes it easier to charge the correct shipping amount. Media Mail prices are based only on package weight, not distance to the buyer.

Then I would add part of the shipping cost to the item price and the other part as a Flat Rate Shipping price. How you want to split the shipping cost on the listing is up to you.
When your books sell you will be able to print 3 separate shipping labels. You will be able to adjust the package size and weight as needed on the label page for each box. Let the buyer know in a message that the books are shipping in 3 boxes that may not arrive the same day.
If you don't see the option to adjust the package size and weight on the label page select Switch To Advanced on the upper right handside.

OP1 year agoThank you!! I was able to talk to a human at E-bay and they suggested the same- do a flat rate shipping cost! I researched the cost of each box on USPS Media mail "estimater tool" on line, inputting my zip code and entering a somewhat "worst case" long distance location of a random zip code on one of the coasts.

·1 year agoYou actually didn't need to worry about the zip code in this case. Media Mail from the East Coast to the West Coast is the same rate as from you to your next door neighbor. The only thing that matters is the weight (and that the box size is under the maximums).

·1 year agoeBay does not offer an option to list things with calculated shipping for multiple boxes, although you'll be able to print the 3 labels for one order.
The good news is that this is simpler because they're books, so if you use USPS Media Mail shipping, it'll be a flat cost based on the weight of the boxes, to anywhere in the US.
What I would do is use the eBay Shipping Calculator to work out the cost per box, then just add the cost to the price of your item and offer Free Shipping on the order. The reason I suggest free shipping instead of a flat rate is that there is a cap on the amount you can charge for flat rate shipping on eBay, and I think it would likely be well below your actual shipping cost for that set (I work for a bookseller and we ship items like that fairly often, and the shipping costs can easily reach $80-100 for three boxes, if they're around 35-40 pounds each, which is close to the maximum we would trust to not end up getting destroyed in shipping).
