Hello, I was attempting to buy a car that was on a listing through facebook market.

Question

The buyer will only communicate through email and says they have moved to California. But the listing is here in my city of Virginia Beach period and they insist on your platform.

As a way too Make the transaction. I know there are many ways people can sdamn. So I need help from an ebay associate to let me know whether or not this is a legitimate posting sale. Thank you very much

Hi @foreverc_76 In case @gosimus was too subtle, it's a SCAM. No question about it. eBay DOES NOT have anything to do with Facebook or anything listed on Facebook Marketplace.

Victims post about this scam here everyday. Most of them after they've lost their money and there's nothing anyone can do to help them. You were smart to come here and ask about it before giving them money or gift cards. Now stay smart and STOP communicating with those thieves. Just stop. You don't owe them a goodbye. Good luck!

It's very easy to determine if an item a legitimate eBay item: Find the item actually listed on eBay. And you communicate on eBay, not your outside email. Even from the sparse details you provided, it's not hard to ferret out the truth. You found the item on FB Marketplace, and the "seller" claims the sale will be handled through eBay. Definitely an attempt to scam you. Another obvious tell, is when the "selller" asks for payment by gift cards. I've put the word seller in quotation marks because this is not a legitimate seller. This is a thief trying to steal your money. You found the item on FB Marketplace, report it as a a scam on that site. Good luck. edited to add ~ And by the way, there's no car. That's a lie, too.
