been reading through a lot of the damage claim threads on here and a few other places, plus some coverage of a wave of card sellers hit by buyers using ai generated images of damaged items to force a refund back in january. curious how common this has actually gotten versus just being a story that got attention for a week.
if it's happened to you: what tipped you off that the photo wasn't real, did you have any way to push back on it, and did having your own packing photos or video make any difference to the outcome

Thanks for posting the question. Until you asked the question I never knew the problem existed but after some research I see that it is a growing concern and not limited to eBay. Now, having said that and the fact that this ID of yours has nothing for sale I would respond as follows.
-If you sell on eBay I would recommend offering 30 day Free returns and have Buyers return items to you regardless of their claims of either damage or an item not being as described.
-A scammer might want to keep the item but having them return it calls their bluff so to speak, they might say they will keep it for a partial refund OR sent something else back in its place. If they want a partial refund stick to your guns and have them return it.
-eBay does have Seller protections that can kick in depending on a seller's account status, what is returned or the condition of what is returned is different than the condition it was shipped in.
