Has anyone else been locked out of using their own eBay gift card for no apparent reason?

Has anyone ever experienced redeeming an eBay gift card, making one purchase which is paid and processed without issue, then getting their gift card frozen when attempting to make a second purchase with the remaining balance?

Also, am I the only one who added a gift card to my eBay account and never saw where the card was filed under, never saw the redemption code on a page along with the starting balance and running balance? Was I supposed to add my gift card and keep my fingers crossed that eBay would keep an accurate balance of my gift card in good faith? No visible proof of the card anywhere in the account, so I have to keep track of the usage myself?

Any other gift card, there is a number to call for the gift card balance, there is a page which will show you the remaining balance, or you can have the cashier scan the barcode in store. The digital eBay gift card has no barcode or security code, which would add an extra layer of protection for the consumer.

So I spent under $15 of a $50 eBay gift card I redeemed from Fetch rewards and the second time I tried to make a purchase using the remaining balance, I got an error message in red saying there is no balance left on the code!

So who stole the remaining balance?

I contacted eBay customer service and they gave me a bunch of hoops to jump through since the complainant is now the suspect. If I don’t get them the info on their terms they get to keep my $30+ dollars! Yay for eBay! And while freezing MY money, they get to earn interest too, which THEY get to keep! Yay for eBay!

Lesson learned: I will redeem my Fetch points for another kind of gift card.  Never an eBay gift card. I should’ve listened to my gut when I put off redeeming my rewards for an eBay gift card. But again, not having a paycheck means that gift cards are more valuable to a stay-at-home mom like me than a big-time seller earning six figures or any person earning a paycheck these days. It’s sad that I can’t even enjoy the reward I took so long to earn - and will eBay compensate me for the time and aggravation?

Thanks for contacting us about your concerns regarding gift cards.

We need specific documentation to complete our investigation.

For physical gift cards, all of following information is required:

    - A photo of the back of the eBay gift card(s) with the redemption code(s) and bar code(s) visible

    - A photo of the receipt used to purchase the eBay gift card(s)

    - A handwritten note containing your eBay username and the current date. The handwritten note must be included in every photo.

For digital gift cards, all of following information is required:

    - A photo of the redemption code(s) email confirmation with header information. Header information must show the email address of the sender and recipient.

    - A photo of the receipt or purchase confirmation email used to purchase the eBay gift card(s)

    - A handwritten note containing your eBay username and the current date. The handwritten note must be included in every photo.

Documentation must also follow these guidelines:

    - Only photos are acceptable. Photocopies will not be accepted.

    - The accepted file types are JPG, PNG, BMP, or GIF formats.

    - Do not cut off or crop out any part of the gift card or receipt.

    - Digitally edited or altered photos will not be accepted and may result in a denial of your claim.

    - Do not submit any personal information, such as your social security number or the password to your eBay account. This information should remain confidential and will not alter the result of your claim. “

So let me ask a question? If your relative or friend gives you an eBay gift card and you don’t have the receipt of purchase, eBay can claim you obtained the gift card through fraudulent means and keep the money???

If you made a purchase using an eBay gift card code, any remaining balance should appear on your checkout page as a line item with a box to check to apply the amount to a purchase.

There is no need to enter the card redemption code again, as once the card has been successfully used the first time, the card is emptied and the balance can only be spent in the same eBay account.
