grossly incorrect shipping estimate by eBay
Sold a lightweight but bulky item. It is a frame for a motorcycle side case. Weighs under three pounds but it is bulky. Got paid $21 for shipping. When I took it to the post office it was $58 dollars. Considering I sold the item for $50 I only got to keep $12.

We see a lot of mistakes from new or low activity Sellers in the area of shipping. It starts with not putting accurate information on the original listing in the Shipping section. I am confident what happened in your case is that the box you actually needed to ship the frame in was larger than the dimensions that were on the listing. What happens is a box for something like that increases in volume and gets charged a Volume rate surcharge. Additionally, there are surcharges for boxes over 22" and 34" long with USPS.
