Got scammed by a buyer & eBay told me it was my fault.
I sold a game to a buyer. When he received it, he said he didn't need the game, just wanted the manual & box. He said he would send the game back & wanted a partial refund. I responded & told him no way. He then opened a claim against me saying the game was damaged & didn't work which was a complete lie. An official claim was now open so I just told him to send everything back & I'll give him a refund. He never responded to my e-mail & never returned the game. Fast forward a few week & I got a message from eBay saying he was fully refunded & gets to keep the game as well. I couldn't believe what I was reading. I contacted ebay & they said since I didn't provde the buyer with a way to return the game it is my fault & lost the case. I live in GA & the buyer lives in NJ. He never sent the game back & never responded to my message either yet it's my fault for him no sending the game back. **bleep**?!? I've been on eBay for 18 years & this is the first scam I've had to deal with. eBay doesn't care about its sellers & doesn't do anything to protect them either.

Mentor3 years agoIf you did not respond to the claim and issue the buyer a return label, that is how the buyer got you. You have 3 days to do that after a claim is opened. If you don't a option will appear on the claim that either you or the buyer can check off to ask Ebay to step in and that is likely what your dishonest buyer did. They knew enough to know that Ebay would force the refund and they wouldn't have to return the item because you never sent that return label.
Now most buyers do not do stuff like this and at some point I firmly believe Karma will get them for stealing from others.
If you had issued that return label and your buyer decided not to return the item, that claim would have closed in your favor with no refund to the buyer. So for the future keep this in mind.
I'm really sorry this happened to you!!ðŸ˜

OP3 years agoI responded to the buyer but everyday when I checked the claim it said that eBay was waiting for a response from the buyer. I didn't see any option or message about sending them a label. I've been on eBay for 18 years & it's only the second time I've been scammed. I agree w/ you that Karma will catch up with them. I looked them up on Facebook & he is one of those weird Emo Goth types w/ black hair, black fingernails, black eye liner ect. I just chalked it up as a loss at this point. eBay doesn't care about the sellers tho, they literally let this guy scam me. Thanks for your response.
