Most likely you have been scammed.
Gift cards can only be used by entering the gift card number into checkout on ebay.com when making a purchase. If you give your gift card number to anyone, that person can use the number to spend the money on the card and you will have no recourse. Which is one reason why many scammers specifically ask for gift cards.
