Getting postal insurance and postage refunded
I set an item to a buyer and it didn't arrive. USPS can't find it even though I initiated a search. I refunded the buyer. How do I get my postage and insurance ($60 item) back since I bought postage through e-Bay? Does E-Bay have to initiate this or do I?

OP2 years agoAs you see above, for some reason it is not honoring the Free $100 insurance all Priority packages get.

Mentor2 years agoSince $100 of insurance is included with priority, it sounds like you may have selected Insurance on the claim. I have filed an insurance claim years ago when the shirt I sent arrived water logged. It was shipped in a priority flat rate envelope, with the shirt wrapped in plastic. Buyer stated the envelope was delivered outside in the pouring rain. USPS refunded me right away.

The way USPS works is the person who buys the postage has to file the claim. I bought the label from E-Bay which sent me a USPS label. So technically it would have to file the claim on a lost package... a $60 item plus postage of $17. Where and how do I contact someone at E-Bay shipping to get this started. It is pretty obvious it is lost. The tracking request we have already made has turned up nothing. E-Bay has already refunded the buyer.
When I try to file I get this: "The following tracking number(s) is not eligible for a refund: 9405508105465251610887. There are not any refundable extra services purchased on this label."
So E-Bay has to file it. Where do I start? I see nowhere I can co ntact E-Bay on this.

OP2 years agoIf I try to file direct with USPS this is what I get:
The following tracking number(s) is not eligible for a refund: 9405508105465251610887. There are not any refundable extra services purchased on this label.

Ebay is not responsible for the shipping situation.
Did you file a claim through USPS?
If USPS denies your claim, your are out of luck.

OP2 years agoI haven't filed he claim yet. The purchaser is the one who has to file the claim with USPS. But I bought the postage from E-Bay. So does E-Bay have a way for it to file a claim on my behalf. E-Bay is the actual seller of the postage. I can try to file but I did not buy directly from USPS, E-bay did.

Since you paid for the USPS postage/shipping, YOU have to file the claim.
Ebay will not file the claim since they did not pay for the postage, YOU did.

OP2 years agoI paid it and it paid USPS with the E-bay account. Thus, I hgot an E-Bay discount. I paid E-bay for shipping and it paid USPS.

OP2 years agoI can go through filing a claim but would like to get an answer from E-Bay, which wants to never be contacted it seems, to try to not waste a bunch of time if it turns out E-Bay has to file.
