Getting feedback from sellers: My strategy

It’s a bit frustrating that many sellers won’t leave feedback for buyers….either as soon as the buyer pays (as eBay recommends) or when the seller receives positive feedback from a buyer.

A quick check of my ratings shows that 96 sellers have failed to leave FB for me over the years.

I’ve learned the hard way you cannot ask a seller to leave you feedback or that will be reported as “feedback extortion” so I’ve adopted another strategy: I leave neutral feedback for sellers who haven’t left me feedback within 20-30 days.  That’s more than fair.

While I’ve had a few sellers complain, there’s nothing they can do about it as eBay supports that action.

Thoughts on my strategy or a better means of getting sellers to leave prompt feedback?

I'm not aware of any place where eBay has a policy that states sellers should leave feedback as soon as the buyer pays, but I can give you a link to where eBay says, "Any misuse of feedback isn't allowed."

    https://www.ebay.com/help/policies/feedback-policies/feedback-policies?id=4208&st=3&pos=6&query=Feedback%20policies&intent=feedback&lucenceai=lucenceai&docId=HELP1223

And here is a link to eBay's abusive buyer policy with instructions on how to report it:

    https://www.ebay.com/help/policies/rules-policies-buyers/abusive-buyer-policy?id=4374&st=3&pos=1&query=Abusive%20buyer%20policy&intent=malicious%20feedback&lucenceai=lucenceai&docId=HELP1318

Feedback is voluntary. No one is required to leave it.

Since buyer feedback is pretty much worthless and sellers can't leave true feedback, some don't even worry about leaving any.

If sellers were able to leave true feedback for buyers, I bet a lot more would be leaving some.

Improving your strategy can be done by ending the grey donuts with comments that start with "Pretty good".

Pretty good after a green donut, is a much much better strategy.

Feedback is voluntary. No one is entitled to feedback.

You are a buyer with over a thousand feedback. If you had 96 additional positive feedback ratings, how would that make any difference one way or the other?

Punishing sellers with neutral feedback for an otherwise satisfactory purchase just because the seller did not leave feedback for you within your privately chosen time-frame is a mistake and likely to lead to problems for you.

Many sellers wait to see if buyers leave feedback first before leaving feedback for their buyers. Leaving a neutral for such a seller will only guarantee that you receive no positive feedback for that transaction, and may lead to you being blocked from making future purchases from that seller.

Sellers may examine your feedback left for others when determining whether to accept an offer from you, and lots of unexplained neutrals may make your offers much less likely to be accepted. Those neutrals hurt you much, much more than an additional 96 positive feedback would have helped.
