FREQUENCY OF NON-PAYING BUYERS A REAL PROBLEM
I am experiencing an increase of buyers who do not pay. I have been selling on ebay almost 15 years, am honest and am proud of my 100% positive feedback. I think ebay needs to address the issue buyers who do not pay. It is a real problem and it is growing worse. I think there should be a "THREE STRIKES" NON-PAYMENT POLICY: If a buyer does NOT PAY for an item THREE times they would lose the ability to buy it now, submit bids or make offers on ebay. I am getting sick and tired of contacting buyers who make offers that I accept to remind them to pay for their item! I am sick and tired of having to contact buyers who win a bid to remind them to pay and respond with "Sorry" or " I forgot"! How can you "forget" to pay for something you wanted and just agreed to buy? Eby is my only income right now. This is becoming a real problem and I think ebay needs to address this and change their current non-payment policy. Any sellers out there agree? I do not want to have to list all of my items under "Buy It Now" just to be able to get immediate payments. There should be something in place where a Seller can have the option of selecting "immediate payment" for winning bids and with make offer/best offers accepted. I feel loyal to ebay but the frustration of non paying buyers with no accoutability or penalty to these buyers may see ebay lose my business. Input welcomed! @robertsgirl443

·3 years agoYou know the buyer can report the feedback you left and you would get hit with a policy violation and the buyer would keep their positive.
Looking at your sold listings, most auctions only get 1 or 2 bids.
Why not list as a fixed price with immediate payment required?

OP3 years agoThank you! I am doing almost everything you have suggested like blocking non paying buyers and using set price Buy It Now for many of my listings. When I have contacted non paying buyers, however, I most always get a payment. I just don't want to have to do that, I should not have to. I may now change ALL of my listings and avoid using 7 day auctions with best offers. I did not know you can set an "AUTO BLOCK" for buyers with 2 or more strikes! Thank you for this, I will use it immediately. Thank you a very helpful reply, very much appreciated!

Mentor3 years agoWhen buyers don't pay within 4 days, are you cancelling transactions for non-payment so the buyer earns a strike on is account?
Are you adding non-payers to your blocked buyer list? Do you have your preferences set to auto-block buyers with 2 or more strikes within 12 months to help protect yourself from repeat offenders?

I wouldn't waste time contacting buyers to ask them to pay. They are either going to pay or not.
Since most of your items sell with only one bid, you might actually sell more if you list as fixed price with immediate payment. You'll attract a different class of buyers who don't want for an auction to end to wait and see if they've won. A lot of people have little patience and want immediate gratification. They see what they want and they want it now. You might try experimenting with this to see if it helps at least reduce the problem.
eBay is experimenting with requiring buyers to provide payment for Best Offers up front, but that is just in the testing phase right now. In the meantime, try using the tools you DO have available.
