First time refund request.
I requested a refund for an item I purchased under returns, it turned out the item was a fake (coin). I requested at least a partial refund since I suppose I took a gamble. They accepted, but they told me I can keep the coin. Do I still need to return the item to be eligible for the refund? (ANSWERED, THANK YOU)

You were entitled to a full refund - not a partial refund. Why should you pay even partially for a fake item?
I wish you had come here to ask before accepting the partial refund. If you haven't already, here's what to do...
If you received an item that is not as described (in your case, a counterfeit item which is illegal to sell), you have up to 30 days to open a return using the option next to the transaction in your Purchase History. The seller will have 3 business days to provide a prepaid return shipping label or else refund. If he does neither, go back to the case on day 4 and use the option to ask eBay to step in. They will force the refund.

At this point, the seller will be required to refund the remaining amount for the item if he has already put through the partial refund - otherwise he needs to refund your payment in full. If the seller refunds immediately, you have no obligation to return the item. If he accepts the return and provides a return shipping label, then you will have to return the item before being refunded.

OP2 months agoWell, he actually sent me some extra stuff. Some foreign coins and a 5 pound note. I offered a partial refund of $20 initially if I sent what was fake back, paid 50 in total. He offered me 35. And to just keep it.
