Final value fee on SHIPPING?!?!
Why is the shipping calculated in the "Final Value Fee"? eBay collects the EXACT amount of shipping cost from the customer. That means the seller loses money on the shipping every single time. That's completely corrupt.

Mentor11 months agoYou might want to consider adding a Handling Cost to your shipping policies.
My selling ID started with a 75 cent handling cost, increased it to 99 cents, and it is now $1.39.
The Handling Cost is shown to buyers as part of the Shipping price they see when they look at your listing.
Yes, the Handling Cost is part of the Total Amount Paid by your Buyers.
Thus, the Handling Cost is subject to the Final Value Fee (FVF) percentage.
On most of my listings, eBay keeps 13.6% as the bulk of the Final Value Fee.
Thus, eBay keeps $0.19 of my Handling Cost on most of my items: $1.39 x 0.136 = $0.18904, rounded up to 19 cents.
I've got a listing for an item of Fashion Jewelry scheduled to go live next week. eBay's FVF percentage on Jewelry is 15%.
When that item sells, eBay will keep $0.21 of my Handling Cost: $1.39 x 0.15 = $0.2085, rounded up to 21 cents.

Mentor11 months agoeBay is collecting their Final Value Fee on shipping because this is their policy. It has been this way since I began selling in 2012.
eBay found that when they did not include shipping charges in the FVF charge sellers would inflate the shipping charges and list the item for a cheap price to get around paying proper fees to eBay. When they did this they reduced the final value fee they were charging to sellers.

For many years now Ebay has charged the final value fees on the total amount the buyer pays. It is nothing new and specified in the Ebay help pages. In order to sell on Ebay, sellers must abide by Ebay's terms.
Per Ebay: "The total amount of the sale includes the item price, any handling charges, any shipping costs collected from the buyer, sales tax, and any other applicable fees."

OP11 months agoI know, but eBay does their own shipping now so obviously there won't be gouging of buyers like in the old days when you could pad your shipping. I lost money on the two items I shipped today.
