Fees on sales tax
I live in NH and sold an item to someone in NY. The item was sold for $125. Ebay then added $10 sales tax. Ebay then said the total amount was $135. I was then charged the ending fee on the $135 total. FYI, NH has no sales tax. If the tax was for NY, why was the final fee charged on the tax?

eBay charges their fees on the total from the buyer.
There are many reasons, here’s a few - choose the ones you like -
- All payment processors charge fees on the total including tax and shipping.
- eBay handles all of the sales tax reporting, why shouldn’t they charge a fee for this service?
- eBay lowered the fee %s when they started processing payments and collecting the tax, to allow for the fee to be charged on the total.
-The math is easier. Excluding these items means the %s would go up, the fees would not go down.
-why not? eBay can structure their fees any way they like 🙂
