New to selling on eBay I'm confused on my final profit? While viewing the details of the sale it displayed a final a final value after all deductions of $92 and when the funds posted I received $72 shouldn't I have received $92?

Mentor1 year agoBoxes of fish hooks are subject to eBay's standard Final Value Fee (FVF) percentage, 13.6%. That percentage is applied to the total price paid by your buyer.
So, $80.00 for a box of fish hooks, plus the $12.00 shipping price shown in your listing (I'm on the west coast), plus whatever sales tax your buyer paid if the delivery address was in a state that does impose sales taxes = more than $92.00. The 13.6% FVF on $92.00 is $12.51. eBay will also retain a per-order fee of forty cents ($0.40) from that sale, because the total was over $10.01. Total FVFs: $12.91 on a total sale of $92.00. (I'm not assuming any sales taxes for this calculation.)
$92.00 minus the $12.00 shipping cost minus $12.91 in fees leaves $67.09.
If you received $72.00, I assume it was because your buyer paid less than $12.00 for shipping. Perhaps the buyer was geographically closer to you than I am, in California, and therefore paid a lower shipping price.
About that Media Mail shipping price, however: Boxes of one thousand bright red metal fish hooks
are not legally eligible to be shipped via the United States Postal Service's Media Mail shipping service.
Unfortunately, eBay's programming still seems to allow Media Mail to be selected as a shipping method for almost anything at the time the eBay listing is created or at least posted. This does not mean that the USPS agrees.
What could happen is that the post office may open the package containing 1,000 fish hooks.
They will see that the package does not contain books or printed music or video/audio tapes.
The post office will ask your buyer to pay any additional postage that is due before the package is delivered to your buyer.
Lots of eBay buyers do not like to pay any extra money to anybody (including the USPS) for stuff they buy on eBay.
