Fees
I looked up the fees before listing. It was 6.7%. Item sold but they charged me 15%! Also, before I could see that, the 1st thing that popped up was print a shipping label, so I did that first, but only afterwards did it show it had the return shippers address! So, I cancelled the label - but the $$ for that is still there! So, then I went to cancel the transaction and they want me to add a payment method to take $14 from me - I guess for the unused shipping label that I cancelled and did not download or printout - so unless I agree to pay them $14, the cancellation won't go through! **bleep**? And of course the AI chatbot can't understand the issue. JFC, I will never try to sell on eBay again. It's an f'n ripoff!

Mentor8 months ago@monroe67 Thanks for that clarification. I do not list in that category.

OP8 months agoI could find no way to list in any other category. How do you do that?

The Books & Magazines category charges 15.3% FVF.

OP8 months agoEBay dictated "where" it is listed, not my choice. Musical Instruments/Equip, is 6.7% according to the website.

Mentor8 months agoSeller fees are in the 12-15% range, depending on the category. That fee is based on the total of the transaction, including tax and shipping. Nothing is as low as 6%, so I'm not sure where you found that erroneous information. I don't know what you mean by 'it had the return shippers address'. The return address should be yours, as you are the shipper. There shouldn't be a problem there. Why did you cancel a paid transaction? That is a big no-no for eBay. There are rules you have to follow as a seller, and not disappointing buyers is the first one. If you have a shipping label to void, go here https://www.ebay.com/ship/labels/seller-hub.
That is an expensive item to start out with. Start smaller. Also, your CD kids' game is local pick up only. That can be shipped Ground Advantage quite easily.
In the meantime, read up on selling before jumping in. https://www.ebay.com/help/selling/selling/start-selling-ebay?id=4081&st=3&pos=2&query=Start%20selling%20on%20eBay&intent=selling&lucenceai=lucenceai&docId=HELP1041 There are many things to learn with listing, pricing, shipping, fees, international shipping, etc. Make sure you read up on those and set up an account for payment before trying again.

When they are listed in the general Musical Instruments category,
guitars and bass guitars carry a Final Value Fee percentage of 6.7%.
I just verified that in eBay's User Agreement, item 6, Fees and Taxes.

OP8 months agoStrangely, what you say first is dead wrong and then you give the relevant info. Muscial Instruments are 6.7%

Mentor8 months ago@scottfg
your item was listed correctly as a musical instrument.
You misread the chart - only guitars & basses are 6.7%. Other instruments are at the rate for ‘everything else’ which is 13.6%.

Mentor8 months agoWell. Even though you registered that eBay user ID, "scottfg", back in 1999, you have a lot to learn about eBay and these forums here in the eBay Community.
You stated above, in Message 8 of 10,
"Strangely, what you say first is dead wrong and then you give the relevant info."
Do you see how I posted those words with quotation marks, in a bolded typeface, and with a different color?
That means I am quoting you, quoting exactly what you posted (said) in your Message 8 of 10, above.
Then go back and take a look at Message 4 of 10 in this thread, my first message in this thread.
Please note that it says "In response to evry1nositswindy".
And then that first sentence I posted, in Message 4 of 10, has quotation marks around it, is in a bolded typeface and a different color.
That means I copied it and quoted it from "evry1nositswindy", because "evry1nositswindy" stated that within his Message 2 of 10 in this thread.
And yes, you have noted that I then gave the relevant information. In an attempt to clarify the not-quite-accurate information given by "evry1nositswindy". And, if you will read all the messages in this thread, you will notice that "evry1nositswindy" thanked me for the clarification.
Further, "scottfg", you go on to state: "Muscial Instruments are 6.7%"
Once again, I am quoting you. That's the reason for the quotation marks, bolding, and bright blue type.
In true fact, you, "scottfg", have misread and misunderstood eBay's chart that lists Final Value Fee (FVF) percentages in relation to categories of items that eBay allows to be sold on their platform.
Within the Musical Instruments category, only guitars and basses (i.e., bass guitars), carry eBay's FVF percentage of 6.7%.
I sure hope you understand that a mouthpiece for a saxophone, any range or size of saxophone, is not a guitar.

OP8 months agore: "Nothing is as low as 6%". Incorrect. Look again. Musical Instruments.
re: "That is an expensive item to start out with. Start smaller." You do not understand and therefore your response is wasting my time. I am selling what I need to sell, I am not playing some kind of game. I am not trying to start some kind of business selling things on eBay. I am simply looking to sell a personal item I need to sell. You are making an inapplicable assumption, so even if well intentioned, it is off point and pointless. Please take your superior attitude and apply it somewhere else.
btw, The CD I listed has nothing to do with my comment.
