Feedback "offensive" term
I tried to leave feedback about a CD that I bought that is by a Gypsy Swing band. The feedback page would not let me post the term "Gypsy," saying that it was offensive. There is nothing offensive about the official and universally used name of this genre of music.

OP3 years agoBut the actual title of the CD that I purchased is "Gypsy Swing". How can that be offensive? Why should I need to obfuscate the item's title?
disneyhopper: If I didn't want to use "gypsy", better than "Romani", this branch of gypsies are known as either "Manouche" or "Sinti", the latter being a direct adaptation of Sindhi, their Indian forebears.

Mentor3 years agoHave you tried using the term "Romani" instead?

Mentor3 years agoIf your objective is to leave feedback, then leave feedback without using the word eBay doesn't allow.

OP3 years agoMy "objective" was to question why that word is not allowed in its legitimate context.

Mentor3 years agoThe algorithms used to prevent the use of words that may be considered offensive are not able to understand nuance or context. They just look for banned words and prevent them. Some words are banned when they shouldn't be, some words that should be banned get through the filters.
So if you want to leave feedback, you'll need to omit the word.
