Fee on the sales tax
I don't quite understand how ebay can charge a fee on the sales tax plus the shipping. That has nothing to do with the item. But if they are going to charge all that plus the 30 cent final value fee, they should just be upfront about it & not so sneaky.

Mentor3 years agoeBay is quite upfront about it. Here is a link to the page that describes final value fees:

Here is the reminder (with a link to the help page on fees) that you see each time you list an item for sale:

Mentor3 years ago@newdumbrules This normal for all money processors to charge a fee on the total amount including the sales tax.
When PayPal processed sellers payouts they charged their fee on the total including the sales tax. Sellers just didn't notice it as much since the fee back then for PayPal was 2.9%. PayPal also charged a per order fee of .30 cents.
From the selling fees page:
"The total amount of the sale includes the item price, any handling charges, the shipping service the buyer selects, sales tax, and any other applicable fees. If you offer 1-day or international shipping as well as a cheaper or free option (like domestic shipping), the total amount of the sale is calculated based on the cheapest domestic option you offer. If you only offer 1-day or international shipping but no cheaper option like domestic shipping, the total amount of the sale is calculated based on the service the buyer chooses."
