fee charged me for canceling a listing
I listed an item for sale and within a few days, I happened to sell the item myself to a local friend having nothing to do with ebay. Since I sold the item, I cancelled the listing. ebay charged my bank account $29. The item was listed for sale at $219 obo, but there were no bids or offers and it had only been about 3 days since listing. I think it had two views. I don’t think that’s right.

$29 out of $219 is about 13.25% which is the normal Final Value Fee.
Are you sure you did not have a bid or pending offer on the item?
Did you participate in an off-Ebay transaction with an Ebay member?
Do you have an item # or link to the completed listing?

Mentor2 years ago@azstevedvm Since you canceled the listing I can't see how it was listed.
If there was a fee shown at the bottom of the screen when you created the listing then that's a listing fee or optional upgrade fee and due the moment you list the item even if the item doesn't sell or you cancel.
You can contact eBay customer service and ask about a courtesy fee credit. It doesn't hurt to ask.
If you ask us your question we'd be happy to help you. We are experienced eBay Mentors who know eBay's policies and procedures.

Here's how to contact eBay customer service:

OP2 years agoThank you for the info. At the time I canceled the listing, I looked and there were no bids and only 2 views. It had only been listed for about 3 days when I sold it to a guy who I know from little league. ebay was not a part of the matter at all. I am very inexperienced with Ebay selling so I don’t really know all the rules, but this seems unfair. Furthermore, I had to come down on the price to sell it so I only got $175 for the item. I have emailed them and asked for a refund, an explanation or a mercy refund from my ignorance. Haven’t heard anything yet. ( only been 3 hours). The “them call me†arrangement is difficult for me because I have a spam blocker that blocks any calls that are not in my contacts. I have to call Verizon to figure out how to temporarily inactivate that program I guess. Thanks again, I’ll keep trying.
