FedEx Shipping calculator discrepancies
With regards to FedEx shipping, over the years I have received numerous shipping adjustments with regards to heavier items shipped via FedEx. Usually the shipping adjustments are around $30 for each shipment. I have followed up with eBay regarding these adjustments and was assured they would be taken care of and I would receive a credit, but later to find out that was all just lip service and no credit would be forthcoming. Today after speaking with both FedEx and eBay representatives for 1.5 hours, I essentially learn that eBay takes no responsibility for the accuracy of the shippping calculator and that there is nothing recourse for a seller who receives shipping adjustments. Please note that there were no discrepancies between the calculations of weight and dimensions between FedEx and my own. Most of the shipping adjustments were made due to other reasons. Unfortunately I don't really know the reasons why, possibly surcharges or other things. But there is no way for seller to know about these in advance of charging the buyer for the shipping, and there's no way to be reimbursed from the buyer for the additional shipping charge adjustment.
I came to learn all of this detail because I went to list an item today that weighs 45 lb, and measures 36 by 18 by 10 in, and the shipping cost per eBay FedEx shipping calculator comes out to as low as $16.36 for a local shipment. The same item using USPS would cost approximately $55. I think we are all in agreement that FedEx cannot ship a 45 lb item and 36x18x10 for $16.36. and so rather than fixing the eBay FedEx shipping calculator, FedEx just charges the seller for the additional shipping charge. This is not new and has been occurring for at least 2 years.
Are there other sellers out there that have had the same problem, and how did you deal with it? eBay informed me there is a disclaimer on the eBay shipping calculator page that I was not aware of. I checked it out and it is certainly there and eBay takes no responsibility for the accuracy of the shipping calculators.

Mentor2 years ago@wildwooddean Fed Ex is known for adding surcharges for MANY years. I have seen surcharges of hundreds reported by sellers. 😞
If I have an item that I can't ship via USPS or want to check for a lower price then I go to Pirateship.com and check the UPS price. Pirateship will help with surcharge disputes as long as your package weight and size are correct and they help with insurance claims if needed.

OP2 years agoThank you for your input. I appreciate it. So your solution is to not use FedEx? I believe that will likely be my solution too. However, that really is not a very good solution to the problem at hand.

Mentor2 years agoI agree that it's not a great solution, but this problem has been going on for so long that I seriously doubt eBay will ever fix it.
