fedex last mile failing
Summary: flashfyre describes recurring issues with package deliveries, where items are marked as delivered by FedEx but do not arrive at their home. They suspect problems in the eBay and FedEx system, with packages being misdelivered or inaccurately marked as delivered. They mention potential use of low-cost carriers for final delivery stages that may not perform reliably, especially in rural areas. They express frustration with the inability to get effective assistance from FedEx or eBay and are considering discontinuing use of the platform. Additionally, a seller sent a new proof of delivery photo, which did not align with the situation, adding to the confusion.
Hello,
So, as a buyer, something has wildly changed in shipping. Out of my past three purchases, one was lost and refunded, two showed fedex proof of delivery to the same commerical building, not my residence.
Of the two with a photo, one eventually appeared on my doorstep, even though the photo doesn't match. I assume either a "good samaritan" dropped it off or fedex caught the error and redelivered without updating the proof of delivery. Because it was here when I got home, I did not have a clue.
But today it has happened again. Three highly rated, different sellers. My address is correct. The address in the seller email is correct. The fedex web tool says the street number on the label does not match my home address.
So something in the ebay/fedex chain is chumming my residential address, or the fedex delivery address is altered. Fedex refuses to discuss, eBay also no longer has representative level service. Maybe eBay will refund this 2nd one if it doesn't show up, but obviously this cannot continue.
Since, as a buyer, neither fedex nor eBay have made themselves available for assurance that this is a known issue and being resolved, I cannot in good conscience continue to use the platform. Years and hundreds of successful purchases.
Just asking sellers to ship with another company won't work, they reroute to each other all the time.
Any ideas or comments would be appreciated.
Regards,
John
9/15/2026: I don't see the point of maintaining a locked thread, but if anyone sees this, my suspicion of what transpired is as follows. Some b2b drop ship enterprises use low bulk rates to send b2b to zip codes. Delivery to the zip code fulfills the eBay transaction as delivered, but it is not at my house. Now the b2b recipient uses ultra low cost "gig economy" carriers to bypass the residential add-on fees -- to handle the "last mile". These carriers are unvetted, using their private vehicles. They receive a couple of bucks to drive to my rural home and back, so they just toss the package. This strategy might work in urban areas, but not rural.

OP1 month agoA new twist : the seller just sent me a fresh photo of a package on my porch, stating that it is proof of delivery, and it is my porch.
however there is no package there, and the fedex link still shows the image from yesterday.
This is bizarre.
