I am an 85-year old part-time seller trying to sell off years of collecting. I mostly use the USPS for shipping except when I ship long boxes for items like golf clubs. I use the eBay shipping page to calculate the shipping cost and Fed Ex has, until recently always costs less than the USPS. Recently FedEx have been accepting my packages over the counter but then add additional costs that eBay then takes out of my account and I think dings me for a mistake that was caused by using their shipping instructions. Trying to get resolution from Fed Ex (as eBay suggests) is confusing and impossible thus far. Trying to explain the problem to eBay AI takes me around in circles and has been beyond frustrating. Any thoughts?

IF you do not put in the correct weight, size and dimensions, they will charge you the difference. You need to select the correct package size as well.
Pack the item before you ship and measure the package and get the correct weight and input that into the "calculated shipping" You should know these details before you list so you charge the correct amount.
eBay is not the one in charge of this, you are as the seller. You are the only one that knows the package size and weight to put in the details when you create a shipping label.

OP1 week agoI weigh and measure every package before creating my shipping labels. I compare costs of USPS, FedEx & UPS on the eBay shipping page and usually select USPS because it is the closest. The only exception is for the long, 4" x 4" and 6" x 6" boxes that I use for items like golf clubs where FedEx always comes up much cheaper - until recently where they have been adding costs charge through eBay.

Mentor1 week agoIf you are getting charges, you are doing something wrong in your packaging.
You have to select the correct packaging as well. Fedex may be cheaper, but you also need to give them all the information about the package.
When shipping large packages with FedEx, consider the following size and handling criteria:
FedEx applies an Oversize Charge if your package exceeds 48 inches along its longest side, 30 inches along its second longest side, or 105 inches in length plus girth (length + 2 x height + 2 x width).
Packages with cubic volume over 17,280 cubic inches (10 cubic feet) or actual weight greater than 110 lbs also incur this charge.
A minimum billable weight of 90 lbs applies for packages incurring the Oversize Charge.
Irregular packages include those not fully encased in an outer shipping container or encased in non-corrugated materials like metal, wood, or plastic.
