FedEx Ground Economy: Lost package, no way to file a claim
If you want to lose your shipments and have no way to file a claim, just use FedEx Ground Economy. My shipment made it to the buyer's local post office, at which point (according to my own post office) FedEx just dumps piles of packages on their loading dock and leaves.
A FedEx rep got back with me after I filed a Better Business Bureau complaint. He said I have to go through eBay to make the claim. When I do that, eBay says I need to file a claim through FedEx.
The rep also said that adding a "92" to the beginning of the FedEx tracking number makes it a USPS tracking number. I tried to file a USPS claim using that number, and the page says the claim can't be filed because the package "has no insurance".
I got another BBB message from some FedEx dope forwarding a message from USPS saying, "The package associated with this tracking number did not have proper postage applied and will not be delivered. You are encouraged to contact the sender/merchant to seek reshipment, refund or other available recourse."
There is a claim form specifically for FedEx Ground Economy on the fedex.com site. However once they dump the packages at the post office, they claim their job is done, and they won't allow a claim.
I tried calling FedEx again yesterday and got a new and just-as-stupid response: The out-of-country rep said that since eBay is the shipping account holder, I need to give her eBay's FedEx account number (I'm sure eBay would be happy to hand out their FedEx account number to anyone).
This is entirely the fault of FedEx. They are the only ones who can resolve these issues with the post office, but who knows if they will. I can't say I'll start using FedEx Ground Economy again once it's fixed, because the only way to tell it's been fixed is to ship another package and hope it doesn't get lost.
