Fed up with having honest feedback removed!!
Summary: johnnyr36 expressed frustration with eBay for removing negative feedback they left for sellers, claiming it undermines the platform's founding principles of honest feedback. fashionsandbeauty4u suggested the issue might be linked to a private feedback profile, and provided a link to eBay's feedback policies. eburtonlab explained potential reasons for feedback removal, including policy violations and seller requests. johnnyr36 later discovered that their negative feedback was removed due to strong language, advising others to keep comments generic.
I've been a E-bay member since 2004. In that time I can only remember leaving deserved negative feedback for a seller 3 times, the latest being this morning and 3 times E-bay has removed honest, deserved negative feedback that I left trying to save others the problems I went through with said seller. I'm also disgusted with E-bays new habit of Automatic feedback for sellers! E-bay was founded on the principal of receiving feedback for completing your part of the transaction ( i.e when I paid for a purchase in a timely manner, I deserve my positive feedback as soon as I paid) ,as long as I receive my deserved feedback for completing my end, I will happily leave theirs when the item is received and they have satisfactorily completed theirs. I should have well over another 100 transactions in my feedback that sellers failed to leave because they thought I should leave theirs first. I'm not going to be blackmailed! So now E-bay has taken to leaving sellers feedback on my behalf, but not for buyers. I can't express how disgusted I am with E-bay removing the very few deserved negative feedbacks that I've left trying to help others and protecting bad sellers. They're violating their own founding principals! My time at Ebay may be coming to an end if you can't be honest!

OPSep 14, 2026 at 7:09 PM · EditedI'm new here, so I'm guessing this is a public forum that the general public can come to for answers, so I'll put this out there for anyone else that may run into the same issue.
Thanks to fashionsandbeauty4u, I was able to get hold of a E-bay associate and found out that the reason my negative comment was removed was due to the fact that I used the term "Terrible Seller" in my feedback. I have no doubt that I did something of the same manner in my other 2 negatives that were removed previously. So, keep it generic folks and thank you fashionsandbeauty.

MentorSep 14, 2026 at 5:56 PMeBay removes feedback for many reasons: some good, some not so good. But eBay rarely if ever explains why feedback was removed or reinstates it once it is removed.
Without knowing all the details of a transaction, the contents of all messages sent and received, what the feedback comment said exactly and the outcome of any eBay case, it is impossible to say with any precision why a particular comment was removed.
Comments can be removed for violating policy, but very few buyers think their comments actually violated policy.

Sellers can get feedback removed if the seller can demonstrate that the buyer attempted to use a threat of negative feedback to obtain something the buyer was not entitled to.
In some cases where the feedback relates to something outside the seller's control, such as a shipment delayed by a declared weather emergency, eBay may remove the feedback.
There are other instances where feedback can be removed, such as if the account was hijacked and used to sell scam listings. There is no point saddling the innocent victim of a hijacked account with bad feedback for someone else's scam.
Top-rated sellers that offer unconditional returns can get some feedback removed if the buyer is refunded.
The fact that some sellers can get some feedback removed does not mean that all sellers can get any feedback removed; there are plenty of sellers that have bad feedback ratings that are unable to get those removed.
For all its flaws, and the feedback system is far from perfect, taken as a whole the feedback system is still a useful tool to determine if a seller is delivering on what the seller is promising. Rather than relying on just a number or a percentage, there is no substitute for actually reading individual comments seeing how far back a seller's history of sales in various categories extends.

Because you have your eBay Profile set to "Private", that may be what the issue is. Here is more information:
If you choose to make your feedback private, you won’t be able to sell items on eBay and the feedback you’ve left and received will be hidden from other members. However, your overall number of positive, neutral, and negative feedback ratings will still be displayed.
Here’s how to change who can see your feedback:
Go to your feedback profile.
Scroll down to the All received Feedback section and set the toggle to either Visible to everyone or Hide.

OP1 month agoWell, that would make sense except that I can see the positive feedback I've left for sellers remains, only the 3 negatives were removed. Why would positives remain and not negative?

When I look at your feedback profile, I see the number of positives over the last 12 months, but that screen doesn't show the details of feedback you received from Sellers or feedback you left for them. So it's definitely a different screen than a public feedback profile.
But as my fellow Mentor stated, feedback can be removed for a host of reasons. Sometimes it's removed automatically and sometimes at the request of the Seller. If you would like the eBay feedback team to know how you feel, I'm including a link where you can leave them your thoughts on the feedback system. By leaving it on that page, it should get directly to the feedback team. I do understand your points though.

OPSep 14, 2026 at 6:13 PMThank you for the link, it will be used and I'll switch my profile to public. I have nothing to hide, just never saw a reason for everyone to know what I buy.
Have a nice day
