This is the 3rd time this has happened. I have been selling and shipping on ebay since 1998. I know how to pack and calculate shipping!!! I sold a LLBean dog bed. Rolled it up tightly, put it in poly mailers wrapped it tightly all the way around with packing tape. I measured it and added 2 inches to the measured dimension all the way around, L, W, H and the weight I went up a pound, so, if it was 6.5 pounds I went up to 8. It was way more than what actual was. Printed the label in ebay on the transaction. Said $16.28 for Fed Ex Ground. They just came and took $39.40 more!!!! There is no way in hell the package dimensions weren't correct and it wasn't going across country! So, why is it that ebay isn't calculating this right or why is Fed Ex saying it isn't right. Someone enlighten me! This such utter **bleep**.

Mentor4 months ago@iglittleluluscrapsvintage Fed Ex and UPS charge a surcharge if the item is not in a box. It sounds like you did not use a box.
FedEx assesses an Additional Handling Surcharge (AHS) — typically ranging from \(\$26.50\) to \(\$30.00\) per package depending on the exact service and zone — for poly mailers. This fee applies because flexible, non-corrugated materials like soft plastic disrupt automated sorting conveyors and require manual handling.
