Faulty DVD set bought as a gift
Back in October I bought a 3 DVD set as a Christmas gift. " of the 3 DVD's will not play - format error.
The seller has gone dark on me. On trying to open an ebay return I'm told I'm out of time. This is despite paying for ebay "Buyers Protection" and extremely unfair as it was bought as a gift. How can I get money back. Thanks. Peter.

You are in the UK, which is DVD Region 2. If you bought a different region DVD, it won't play on a Region 2 player. Likewise, if you bought a Region 2 DVD and gifted it to someone with a different region player, the disk won't play in their region. In other words, the disks are coded and the player is coded, and those codes must match. UNLESS, you play it on what they call a Region 0 player, also called a non-Region player, which will play any region disk. I bought my Region 0 disk player years ago right here on eBay for $79 and it works great with any disk, no matter where the disk came from. Also, there are Region 0 disks, which aren't coded and will play on any region player. Reading back, I understand my explanation might be as clear as mud to someone who isn't familiar with regions. You can learn more by using google to search DVD Regions.
edited to add: Just remembered PAL and NTSC codings. To further complicate the matter, there's another type of recording that I can't explain off the top of my head, so I asked google. Here's a screen shot.

You have 30 days from receipt of item to open a claim with eBay.
You will have to pursue a refund through other methods such as your payment processor.
