false information by seller
I purchased an item from a seller listed on the Ebay page with a New Jersey address and which said the item would ship by USPS First Class. According to the shipping record, however, the item originated from San Ysidro, CA and was shipped by USPS Ground Advantage. I chose this seller from others in large part on the basis of the location and shipping method. Am I wrong in thinking that the page is deceptive and suspicious, however minor the impact might be?

Mentor1 year agoToo add to this. If this was something too big for first class large envelope which most items it would be first class package which doesn't exist anymore. First class package is now part of USPS Ground.

The short answer is yes and no.
Although First Class is offered to the Seller, once that Seller goes to print the label, eBay will not let them. It's because First Class does not come with tracking. The Seller must then upgrade to Ground Advantage and will need to absorb that extra cost.
As for the mispresentation of the location, that may be a violation of eBay policy.
As long as this Seller doesn't ask you for more shipping money, it sounds like he's trying to do his best to get your purchase to you.
