Fake tracking number scam - Ebay won't help. Any other victims of this scam get their money back?
I purchased an item from a seller. The item was supposedly shipped, but never arrived. The tracking number on the listing is a real tracking number, but it's not for my order. I was able to get UPS to show me the full tracking information for the number I was provided, and it's actually for an item purchased from Amazon to some other other house in my zip code. Somehow the seller was able to find another legitimate tracking number for some other random order where the destination zip code matches mine, and then attached that number to the listing. E-bay refused to help despite me providing proof. Anyone else have luck in recovering money from this scam? I was too comfortable in trusting the "buyer's guarantee".... I won't be using e-bay nearly as much any more.

OP2 years agoThank you for the feedback! Unfortunately for me, I was having trouble getting proof of delivery from the carrier. Since it wasn't my tracking number, UPS wouldn't give me the proof of delivery for privacy reasons. So instead I thought that if I uploaded images to ebay of all the inconsistencies related to that tracking number (completely wrong size, weight, ship date, and the delivery photo itself), a normal human would see that it could not possibly be for my order. I tried a few times and burned my appeals so now e-bay won't talk to me. Later I finally convinced UPS to give me the proof of delivery but now the case is closed and I can't appeal again.
What's most frustrating is that if I could have spoken to an actual human at e-bay for 5 minutes, I could have easily demonstrated that it's 100% impossible for that tracking number to be for my item. And that's before I had proof of delivery!
For buyers out there - just beware that E-bay's "Money Back Guarantee" isn't a guarantee after all.

·2 years agoYou only can ask for written proof that it was not delivered to you, not where it actually was delivered.
An option still can be to contact eBay's Customer Service via Facebook or Twitter. They are very good.
Find how to send eBay a private message on https://Facebook.com/eBay or https://Twitter.com/AskeBay
If you don't have an account, your have to make one. Facebook is the easiest.

OP2 years agoI actually had written proof from UPS that it was not delivered to me, which I provided, but they denied my appeal anyway. They just repeated the fact that they show it was delivered and closed the case. They didn't seem to care WHERE it was delivered. lol.
I will try to contact them via facebook. I very much appreciate all the advice!

So you already requested your money back through eBay with no success?
Then you need written proof from the carrier that the item was not delivered to you.
That is for a successful appeal.
