Fake purses
Is anyone else seeing a huge amount of fake purses lately? I am a huge Rebecca Minkoff fan, and recently got 3 fake purses in a matter of a couple of months! Two of them were very good replicas, but the 3rd one was cheaply made (couldn't tell from the photos). I actually got ahold of a Rebecca Minkoff rep from their NY office (only because this one particular seller refused to admit
their bag was fake - so I sent photos to the store).
They gave me some great tips (besides the fact that they encouraged me to buy from them, Nordstrom, or Sax):
- Look at the hardware (Zippers, clasps, etc). They are all high quality and solid. They generally have a sorta triangle squared off top.
- some of her bags do have lining, but not regular satin or fabric- which have been in 2 of 3 of the fakes. Her vintage bags had birds and blue and black spots.
- Her name plate is almost always on leather or metal (a couple exceptions like the Megan and Darren bags) The one that I had bought was stamped on without color just on the fake suede.
- stitching (hard to see in some photos), but quality stitching is obvious
- Her bags have been made in China, but possibly moving to other places due to tariffs.
I asked if there was a list of named bags, so we would have something to go by, but they don't. The lady did say if we had questions about authenticity, to send photos and ask.
The fake purses are getting better over time, and it's unfortunate because we pay good money for nice Rebecca Minkoff bags.
People that have a negative response when you inquire - generally have something to hide.
I only wanted to get input from others, and let those sellers who are posting fake ones know we are taking notice!
I love that there are a wide variety of Rebecca Minkoff purses on here (and vintage!). Maybe we can help others identify authentic purses and share experiences?
