Fake buyers
I am certain I have just dealt with I am searching I have just dealt with a fake buyer. They have requested a return on a damaged use item that was shown in the photos of the listing. Extremely minor cosmetic, and a fraction of the complete order. It was one out of a dozen pieces I could have replaced and offered several options to resolve the issue Generously with every attempt being declined by this buyer. I was looking at the reviews and strangely the first 10 or 15 reviews had the exact same remarks from 10 or 15 different people. That’s awfully strange as I looked deeper to see more all the reviews it’s the same thing changing every couple months and alternating between a few different phrases, hundreds of different people leaving feedback, and only maybe 20 different remarks tops. And they’re not simple three or four word complements

OP2 years agoThank you, I apologize for just now seeing your response and happy to say eBay overturned their original ruling that sided with the buyer after I filed an appeal with several screenshots of evidence to support another look at the case and buyer in particular. I have since went to accepting 30 day returns but for awhile I was adding a hefty S&H fee as the incident with the buyer was the first of three bad deals in a row. The next sale was another large item east coast buyer ( I’m in California) claimed the crystal dinner piece arrived broken and luckily it was post office insured because it was very well protected after the first incident and in between the time I shipped and she received I had a buyer bid and win an auction then never pay me. The funny part is that eBay wanted feedback on the first and last buyers in my story which I found there was only one option to pick and that was positive which was troubling and confusing and frustrating as buyer reviews seem worthless to sellers it’s not like we know anything about who we’re selling to until it’s a done deal unless it’s different on the website than it is on the app. Guess I need to do some more research and reading on the website and stop winging everything in life🤷ðŸ»â€â™‚ï¸

Mentor2 years ago@retrolegitfinds As a fellow seller I know how upsetting returns can be.
If the buyer files a refund request saying that the item is not as described then you need to accept the return and issue the return shipping label.
The eBay Money Back Guarantee overrules your returns policy. Your return policy only applies if the buyer files a buyer's remorse return: Doesn't fit, changed mind, etc.
If you do not accept the return willingly then the buyer can ask eBay to step in and forces a refund. You do not get your seller's fees back, you get a defect and the buyer may be allowed to keep the item.
If the buyer abuses the eBay MBG in some way then you can report them but it doesn't get your money back:

Sellers have protection for return abuse if they offer FREE RETURN shipping on their listings OR if they are a Top Rated seller and offer 30 days or greater returns. The seller can then reduce the refund amount by up to 50% if the buyer sends a different item or somehow reduces the value of the item.
