Failed Transactions but Payment Charged
I won an auction to purchase an item from the eBay Vault on 31 March. During checkout, I chose to ship the item to my address. When making payment for the order, there were constant errors no matter which payment method I selected. I eventually resolved that after 24 hours with eBay as it was a technical glitch on their end.
However, the failed transactions still resulted in my bank account being debited twice.
I spoke to the bank and they mentioned that eBay’s reversal charges were ‘unsuccessful’. The funds were not ‘on hold’. They could not be returned as the reversal charges did not come in.
But according to eBay, both charges were not made and are part of a so-called “pre-authorisation holdâ€. They said that these charges will eventually be returned to me - supposedly between 3-5 business days.
It has been 8 business days now and I still do not have an answer or a firm clue what is going on behind the scenes. Did the eBay Vault glitch also resulted in the reversal charges failing? Or is the bank or eBay holding my funds for no better lack of reason? I highly doubt it is the former though.
Could anyone please help in identifying the issue here for me?

Mentor2 years ago@lo_just Sorry, we can't access accounts to help you get to the bottom of this. What you were told by eBay is typical of how purchases can work. Especially if it was a best offer then a hold is placed on the offer funds and it should have been removed after the 3-5 business days.
Here's how to contact eBay customer service:
eBay agents are working from home so you have to request a call back or live chat.
1. CLICK THIS LINK:

2. Request a call back
If you are located outside of US or Canada then you will need to use the Chat option or Social Media
3. Or you can also contact customer service by sending a PRIVATE message on social media. Customer service verifies your identity before responding.

OP2 years agoThanks. Yes, the worrying part for me is that I still hadn’t gotten back the funds after 8 business days. So, that is the major point of concern with all this.
I had also spoken to several eBay customer support operators on live chat but the response has been the same. The latest one tells me that it could be between 5-10 days, so it feels like they’re just moving the timeline subjectively.
I might try the one on social media next to see if that is any different.
But would you happen to know of any cases where this sort of charge takes a much longer time or fails to be credited back to the buyer?

I haven't heard complaints from buyers about the hold taking a long time like this to be released.
Try eBay for Business on FB and see if they can give you a better answer. They are US based agents and more experienced. Leave a PRIVATE message and they will get back to you.
