Facebook Marketplace item that eBay will ship
I found an item on Marketplace that I'm interested in. The item was listed by a man from Los Angeles who said he was selling it for his Aunt and provided her email address. After some back/forth emails, I get this -
"As I told you in my first email, I got a new job and moved back to Ne, Omaha. Before leaving I had prearranged the deal with eBay so my presence isn't necessary. They won't give me any money until you receive and test the tool box. It is at the shipping company, ready to be delivered. The shipping cost is included in the selling price of the toolbox! You have 5 days to test it and inspect the tool box. So if you want to make this deal I need the following details from you:
-full_name
-shipping_address
-phone number
Once I get all the details, I will forward them to eBay_and they will proceed with the order. They'll email you with all the information that you need to complete this deal and also they will confirm that the deal is conducted through them and I'm a legitimate seller. Waiting for your email with the requested details."
I provided my information she asked for (no money has changed hands). A few hours later, I get this response from her -
"I have received your complete delivery details and right now I will forward the information to eBay so they can open a case regarding our deal, Monday morning they will contact you by email and will let you know all the transaction terms. Please get back after you receive the invoice from them so we can complete our deal."
My question to this forum is, does eBay perform these types of services? Has anyone experienced similar circumstances? My gut instinct is this is a scam, but because no money has changed hands, I'll play along.

This is a scam! The only legitimate eBay transaction is one where the item is listed for sale on eBay and you purchase it through eBay.
I'm sorry you've already given this thief some of your personal information, but don't communicate any further.

Mentor8 months ago@dlashb40 If you saw the listing on another site and they said "eBay will handle the sale" it's a SCAM.
Report the listing to FB
eBay has NOTHING to do with sales on another site. ( other than a few select ads where you return to eBay to checkout)
Always pay for vehicles in person with cash or bank transfer after you have inspected the vehicle carefully.

No eBay doesn't do this.
This is a scam.
I suggest you cease communications with this person
The scammer now has your name, address and phone number.
