Fabric, cloth for sewing
Sellers who list cloth or fabric should be required to accurately list the fabric weight per square yard, or per square meter and include it as part of the listing before the fabric is listed. Sellers seem to automatically include; length of the fabric and if it has stretch. The photos show patterns and colours. And the width of the fabric is almost always listed. But if the weight is not listed, or if it is not listed correctly, potential buyers have to contact and ask the seller. Then they have to hope that the seller answer correctly (or honestly). The fabric is useless to me or any other buyer if the weight is not known! And if the weight is misrepresented, it has to be returned. And sometimes results in a negative review for the seller!
This information is hugely important to the buyer and readably available to the seller! If the fabric is new or sold on the bolt, the weight information is always available. Photos are never sufficient to represent the weight of the fabric accurately. In fact, experienced sewers can usually accurately determine the stretch percentage, material types and combinations, and even the fabric width if the listing includes a photo of the fabric and the weight of the fabric listed by the square foot or square meter.
To sum up, buyers would save hours or days per purchase if the following information was required to be part of every fabric listing: length, width, weight, if it has stretch, and a few photos. And the information is easy to obtain with a tape measure, postage scale (which sellers usually have) and a calculator. Fabric material(s), patterning, (such as floral, tapestry, embroidered, western, geometric, modern), and brand or specific type are helpful but harder to for an inexperienced seller to determine. As an aside, including text on, “what the fabric could be used for,†is worthless, superfluous and boring information.
