Extra shipping fees
I was recently charged an extra $19 and change for shipping a golf club. They said it’s a shipping adjustment. The package supposedly weighed 11 pounds. It was one golf club. I estimated 2 pounds which I’m sure is very close to the weight of one club. The fact that I’m being told the package weighed in at 11 lbs for ONE golf club is ridiculous. I’ve shipped entire iron sets that did not weigh 11 pounds. Cmon. This seems very shady. And they did it on two of my other recent shippings as well. I’ve never had this issue before and I have a 100% rating with almost 400 transactions on eBay. Sirhacksalot

Mentor2 years agoWhat where the dimensions? If the dimensions can affect the billable weight.

OP2 years agoTypical dimensions on boxes I ship are 48x5x5 or less. Long skinny boxes. Sometimes shorter with wedges and putters. But the description in UPS shipping gave a total allowance for dimensions and I was under that.

This is a technical issue with FedEx:

RESOLVED -root cause has been identified, and resolution is underway. All impacted customers will be credited for any erroneous FedEx label adjustment costs. At this time we don't need any other customer examples.

OP2 years agoThe shipping charges I received after the fact were all on ups shipped items. As I mentioned before, it ain’t my first rodeo so I’m pretty good at it estimating weight on my packages. And 11 lbs for one golf club is comical. Thanks. Sirhacksalot

Sorry, you didn't mention ups. FedEx is the big problem the last few days.
I don't know if there is a way to dispute the adjustment - I'll ask another mentor
@rfmtm do you know if the charge can be appealed, and how? Thanks!

Mentor2 years agoIf OP was under the limit for the surcharge it can be appealed, but with ebay in the middle is the problem. OP will have to contact and hammer on ebay and convince them to go after UPS. With your own UPS account it is otherwise fairly easy to contest it directly with UPS.

OP2 years agoI’m thinking the best way to get around this issue is shipping directly. As you said, if I’m instigating the transaction from my own account I can deal with them directly. I’ve never raised an issue with shipping in my past decade of doing business with EBay. What it looks like on the outside though is EBay going after extra fees. That’s not good for their business.
