exorbitant shipping fees for golf clubs?
I've only sold a few items on eBay (I'm typically a buyer), but have noticed recently that eBay will estimate shipping fees for golf clubs I'm listing in the 4-6X range of fees I remember were charged just 1-2 years ago. For example, a single driver or 3-wood could be shipped in the 12-18 dollar range while using the eBay USPS shipping label feature. The fee was passed to the buyer during the transaction. Now I'm getting estimated shipping fees that range from $60-$100. No buyer in their right mind wants that type of fee passed on for a club that they may be buying for only $50. what has happened to shipping through eBay? As I doing something different and don't realize it?

Mentor3 years agoThere are surcharges for long packages and for packages over 2 cubic feet, so weigh and measure your package carefully. These were new last year or year before, so if you haven't sold for a while you might not have seen them before. The shipping calculator is spot on accurate if your data is correct.
The other thing to consider - if you're using usp, the default setting is to charge the buyer retail rates while you pay a heavily discounted rate. You can let your buyer pay the discounted rate. Change the setting here under carrier specific discounts - https://www.ebay.com/ship/prf

so I’m clear, if I allow my buyer to pay the discounted rate, does that take care of the shipping in entirety or does the balance cost of the retail shipping rate revert to me? That seems to be what has happened so far and I don’t have a solution to modify this in my settings, at least not one that I have found.
For example, I offered a flat rate shipping of $22 for a recent sold 3 wood but the best rate I could find from USPS on the eBay shipping label print feature was for $68… I couldn’t do anything in my settings to change that. I had the dimensions and the weight of my package correct and did not see an option for discounted shipping whether it was for me or to pass along to the buyer.
