Exchanging an item
I was trying to see how to exchange an item from a reputable seller which arrived damaged. The only obvious option was to start a return. The seller advises that I have to cancel the return in order to do an exchange for another (identical item). Will I jeopardize anything by canceling the return?

Mentor2 years agoHi @beatnik626wi5 Do NOT cancel your Return. You only get one. Do NOT agree to accept a replacement. The seller will string you along until the deadline for a Return has passed and will never send a new item. What this seller proposes is all to their benefit and there's nothing in it for you. How do I know this? Because we hear this same situation all the time from buyers and if they don't listen to us, the next thing you know they're back here asking what they can do after the seller double crossed them. Answer: Nothing.
Keep your Return open. The seller must send you a pre-paid return shipping label to send the item back. If they do not, four days/96 hours on the dot after you opened the Return, the option will appear to Ask eBay to Step In. Ask eBay to Step In and eBay will make the seller do what they should have done in the first place which is to correctly process your return by sending you a shipping label and refunding all your money.
There are few items so rare that only one eBay seller has it. Get your money back and then find a better seller. If you have any other questions about this, please post back. Good luck!

Indeed you will. Giving that seller the benefit of the doubt, I'll just say that s/he is mistaken. If you cancel the return, eBay will consider the matter closed and you forfeit all help you could have got. What was the reason for the return request that you chose? I hope your answer to that is "didn't match description" or equivalent in slightly different words.
