*** Excessive Shipping Adjustment ***
Summary: bl604842 shared their experience of selling a toy item that weighed 4 pounds, only to face a shipping cost adjustment due to an incorrect reported weight of 49 pounds, leading to a charge of $184. They are frustrated with the lack of support from eBay and USPS, as well as their subsequent negative account balance and overdraft fees. comics-scifi-collectibles responded with suggestions on how to address shipping adjustments, explaining that shipping costs may also consider package dimensions. They recommended using social media to contact eBay's customer support and suggested alternative shipping methods for the future. bl604842 clarified that the adjustment was unrelated to a previous shipment of a walker, emphasizing their confusion and distress over the situation.
I sold a toy item weighing about 4 pounds two weeks ago. Buyer received it the transaction went well and I was paid out. A week later I get a message that ebay was adjusting the shipping cost because the package weighed in at 49 pounds. 45 POUNDS HEAVIER!!!! They charged me $184 for the adjustment. I paid $11 already! So in total i paid $195 to ship a 4 pound toy I sold for $300 from florida to california!! I called ebay and they said because it was usps i had to contact them and put in a claim. If i had used one of the other shipping methods they could have helped me internally. I told them your suggestion option when selling on their platform is USPS! If i had known you dont have access to help with USPS i wouldnt have selected that as an option! ANyway I contact usps put in my claim and contacted ebay again thinking they needed the claim number. SPoke with a rep told them what hapened again they researched it and said yeah thats crazy they have never seen such a thing before. He even looked up the same item sold by other sellers and the weight clearly is 4 pounds across the board! He said he put notes on the account and i would be contacted within 48hrs. 5 days later no call. What they did do is hold my funds from other sales and deducted the $184 from it so i'm now negative $1. I'm overdrafted by $54 on my bank account because they charged the other items i shipped on my debit card. This was suppose to be a secondary income for me and its turned into a nightmare. Please can someone give me advice on what to do and how to handle this. Their automated system sucks unless you're returning an item or cancelling an item. It asks the saame question over and over again. What item do you want to return???? I answer i dont have an item to return i have a shipping cost you overcharged me and i need it refunded. Would you like to cancel the order???? No i dont want to cancel the order. And we go round and round like this for infinity. This is how AI is going to take over jobs? lol I don't think so!! People don't want to talk to machines they want to talk to live people. Has anyone else had an issue like this happen? How long did it take for them to fix? I think i'm going to pull all my items this isnt worth the stress.

Mentor1 month ago@bl604842 Sorry for the delay in responding, life has been busy.
Are you sure this wasn't a shipping adjustment for the walker? That looks oversized. Packages over 1728 inches are subject to dimensional weight surcharges.
Shipping charges are based on package dimensions, not just the weight and distance to the buyer. You must round up to the next full inch when calculating the shipping.
I do not know which shipping method you used so I am giving you instructions for USPS, UPS, AND Fed Ex.

#1 USPS>
To check on shipping labels, go here: https://www.ebay.com/ship/lmng
Some of your shipping labels have cost adjustments.
If you think these adjustments are incorrect, you can contact USPS Customer Care at 1-844-819-5187 or verifypostagehelp@usps.gov to open a dispute. Make sure you have the IMPB and Revenue Assurance ID below to identify the adjustment. USPS will respond within 5-15 business days. ( customer service can NOT help with USPS disputes)

#2 Fed Ex AND UPS are disputed the same way through eBay.
Only eBay customer service can file the dispute since they are the Fed Ex / UPS customer. I recommend contacting CS on social media to ask them to do this.
Keep in mind that Fed Ex does sometimes add incorrect surcharges but there are CORRECT surcharges that you can read about on the Fed Ex website.
Personally if I have an item that is too large or heavy to ship via USPS then I use UPS and buy the label from Pirateship. Pirateship helps with insurance claims and surcharge disputes. UPS does have a list of valid surcharges on their website too.
UPS does not add surcharges as often as Fed Ex does.
Social media is the best way to contact customer service for this issue.
Here's how to contact eBay general customer service. ( I feel that it's ok to use this option since it does affect your bottom line.)
Click this link> https://www.ebay.com/help/selling/getting-paid/getting-paid-items-youve-sold?id=4814
Then Type PAYOUT In the chat bot box on the lower right.
Then AGENT after the bot responds. You might have to repeat those steps.
Or you can also contact customer service by sending a PRIVATE message on social media. Customer service verifies your identity before responding.

OP1 month agoNo it wasnt for the walker. The walker shipping was $89. This was for the toy with an adjustment of 45 pounds going from 4 pounds to 49 pounds.

Mentor1 month ago@bl604842 It's still most likely a dimensional surcharge. I provided all of the ways you can dispute depending on how you shipped.... UPS, Fed Ex, or USPS. I do wish you luck with the dispute.
