Excessive and inaccurate shipping charges that were added
How can additional shipping charges be tacked on after it was accepted by postal service. The items were plastics from a dirt bike that weighed hardly anything. The notification stated weight was 59 pounds. EBay says it’s the carriers issue

How big was the box those items were shipped in? I suspect you were charged for Volume weight (use to be called Dimensional rate). If your listing dimensions on the listing were wrong (ie smaller) for the box they eventually shipped in then you will be charged a higher rate.
I just shipped a package today that measured 30" x 14" x 8" ... PA to IL. my cost was mid-40s. Had the length been 31" instead of 30" my cost would have jumped to the low $ 70s.
Counter clerks may not take the time to measure packages and just let the downstream scanning and weighing systems in their bulk centers pick up that info and determine if there is an issue with how much postage the package should have on it.
