excess shipping charges
I'm being charge extra for shipping including one ridiculously wrong, and eBay tells me I have to take up the issue with the P.O. I was charged 8.31 -- almost double for the actual shipping cost. Every thing I shipped in December was wrong -- and I checked a couple AT THE POST OFFICE when I was dropping the item off!

If you are taking the packages to the post office, you are being charged "counter rates"
You may be only charging for online rates, which are cheaper in most cases (media mail is an exception to that)
Check on this page to see if you are charging the discount rate
Shipping Preferences
If you are offering
eBay discounted rates, the buyers are not paying the full counter rate.
You should try to buy your postage online because the prices are better in most cases.
Another issue you may have is how you are using calculated shipping. If you are not charging enough it may be because you input incorrect weight and dimensions in the listings.
With calculated shipping it is important to add accurate sizes of packages and weight of the package. (for USPS you round up)
Here is more information about shipping which might help.

Mentor8 months agoWhen the USPS charges you additional fees for shipping these are determined when the package goes through specific sorting centers and not at the retail post office level. eBay is correct that you need to deal with the post office about the additional fees since they were the ones to determine you owed additional money. Many things can trigger additional fees from the USPS. Using incorrect dimensions or weight for the package. The package being oversize or longer than the standard package. The package being an irregular shape.

OP8 months agoThanks. But I think the problem is with eBay. I've only had a couple of minor corrections in the past - and this time every shipment in December was WAY off. And I was stupid, and trusted eBay, because I've never had a problem like this before and didn't keep the darned P.O. receipts. The problem I had that soured me on selling a couple of years ago was being almost ripped off for $1,4,00. I stopped selling entirely I was so upset. eBay paid me -- but they also refunded $1,400. to an obviously felony-level fraudster! eBay biz is apparently so huge it's not worth their time to prosecute a thief!
