Ex-Library books
Everyone knows that a former library book is garbage to a collector. It is, simply by being a former library book, automatically in acceptable or poor condition. How are people allowed to list these as good or very good?

Maybe the book was only read once or twice. Look at the photos to see the condition.

OP6 months agoYou’re missing my point. Library books are covered in stamps and stickers, have a plastic cover glued in, and other defects that prevent them from ever being considered good or very good by any honest seller. Has nothing to do with how many times it’s been checked out or read

A book described as a library book can be in good condition. Not everyone who buys a book is a collector. Some people buy books just to read them.
Now if the description doesn't disclose the fact that the book was a library book with a glued-in plastic cover, etc. then the item is not as described and can be returned for a refund. You can tell a lot by reviewing the seller's feedback to see what experiences other buyers have had.
Item condition is subjective for books and everything else. I was looking for a particular out-of-print book recently, and it was amazing how differently each seller described the condition. As it turned out, the one I ordered looks absolutely brand new (and was described as very good).
I understand that it's time consuming to shop for a collector's item, but that pretty much goes along with collecting.

OP6 months agoThere is no way a former library book could objectively be considered “good†or “very good†condition. I mean, compared to what? A book currently on fire? All I want is honesty in grading these things.
