ending auctions
Hello, I have a question and I don't know how to proceed. I was bidding on 4 different items. Upon the auction ending the seller cancelled the bids on all 4 auctions. I suspect the seller cancelled because there was not very much action and was going for a low price. What can I do if anything. Thanks

Mentor2 years agoI'm not sure if you are saying the seller cancelled your bids before it ended or if they cancelled the transaction after it ended.
If they cancelled bids and ended the listing they would be charged fees on the highest bid cancelled. If they just cancelled bids then bids could still come in.
If they cancelled after you won and selected out of stock they would get a defect on their account.
Either way it happened there isn't much you can do but there are repercussions already in place. If it was cancelled after you won you can also leave feedback.

OP2 years agoThe seller cancelled after the auction had completed and I won. They marked all 4 as errors in the listing. When I reviewed the listing verbiage with the pictures they matched. I suspect because the items were going to sell for cheap is the reason why. I messaged the seller and waiting for their response. I checked and no I am not able to leave feedback for these transactions.

·2 years agoThe seller already got a "defect" when s/he cancelled the transaction (unless s/he lied to eBay to blame you, in which case we'd need details especially what eBay said the reason was in the cancellation notice). That is the primary tool eBay uses to weed out bad sellers, downgrading the selling status of those who get too many relative to their sales volume (as opposed to having to pay employees to actually investigate to see how likely it was that the seller had a legitimate reason to cancel vs. deliberate policy violations).
You may leave appropriate (calm, factual--if the seller said that x was the reason say "seller said x. . ." so people don't think you are just jumping to conclusions) feedback to warn future buyers/bidders. If the usual links have vanished, go to anyone's Feedback Profile (doesn't matter who, click on the feedback score in parentheses behind the username) then scroll down to below the last comment on that page to find a "Leave feedback" link that doesn't vanish (it brings you to a list of items you can leave feedback for).
Theoretically you could sue the seller for breach of the contract of sale (for the difference between the auction price and what you ended up having to pay for a replacement), but that is almost never practical.

The feedback option is removed from the drop down in the purchase history when cancelled but you can still leave feedback.
If you won you should see the transactions here in order to leave feedback.

Error in the listing isn't an official reason that can be selected for cancelling a transaction. It can be used when ending a listing. The reasons the seller can select when cancelling a transaction are
Out of stock
Buyer requested
Problem with buyers address.
After four days a fourth cancellation of non payment is also available.
If they officially cancelled a transaction it should have one of those reasons.
