End Time was up, Bid Came in AFTER and they won...
Just wondering if this has happened to anyone else, I've been on eBay for 21+ years and this is a first for me.
I had a winning bid, the screen showed me as the winner and then refreshed and all of the sudden it says I lost.
The auction end time showed :
Time Ended:
Jul 31, 2025 at 6:00PM PDT
and then:
Bid Time: 31 Jul 2025 at 6:00:04pm PDT
as I mentioned, the screen said I won and then refreshed and then I lost.
Upon talking to Support, they agreed with me and this is the answer I got:

Upon further checking here, I do agree with you about the time that the listing was ended.

One of the things that I can think of why this happened is due to the seller have the ability to still select who will win the auction specially if there is no any maximum bid being provided.

In addition, the seller will select who had the higher amount of the bid.
I feel like that is an unethical thing for an auction company to allow...
I mean, why would a seller have the ability to select a winner? That defeats the purpose of an auction... Auctions are determined by who had the winning bid prior to the auction time ending... Imagine if this was a live auction and the auctioneer gives the warning "going once, going twice... SOLD" and then a bidder places a bid. The auctioneer cannot accept that bid.
ANYWAYS, just wondering if this has happened and what your thoughts are...

When I launch my auctions I used the scheduler and they start at a specific time to the minute, no seconds are involved.
However, there is also such a thing known as Real-time latency which can affect displays on different computers or mobile devices across the internet. While I doubt it applies in this situation it can on some systems. I know on webcast live internet auctions sometimes there is a slight wait time before the auctioneer calls a bid. They allow some time for proxy bids to come in.

Mentor1 year ago@218jourdain Sorry to say but the agent has no idea what they are talking about. A seller can only end the auction early and sell to the high bidder if there are more than 12 hours left.
If this was an eBay Live auction then I know that there is a test for some items to have a "soft auction close" that adds a few seconds if the bidding is very active.
For NORMAL auctions bidding ends at exactly the time the seller started the auction. So if the seller started the listing at 4 seconds after the hour then it ends at 4 seconds after the hour. The screens do not always line up well though, that's the reason for the confusing message that you won.
