Embargoed goods
Hi,
I just wanted to point a small issue regarding Items that have association with one or another particular Arabic or Indo-Aryan/Info-Iranian “Name” such as “Ahmad.”
So I’ll preface by saying I’m not complaining about policy or trade laws. Both should be observed obviously. That said here is the issue that could be fixed if desire exists among ebay staff to do the necessary revision to their AI management prompt (which may be incredible in causing extreme workload or if fixing it would cause more problems that it would be worth to fix:
I have noticed when I post items from regions that share borders with and or share cultural and linguistic similarity or relatedness. This extends very broadly across Central and South Asia along with the Near east, and beyond.
My two examples are listings that got flagged by AI as embargo violations because they originated in Iran. But that simply was not true as one item was an Indo-Parthian Kingdom coin (which I honestly cannot figure out why it flagged) from India, and the other an Indian medieval coin attributable to ruler “Ahmad Shah II.” When I adjusted to A. Shah wherever it was mentioned and left the rest as is, I got a clue. Is it flagging the name “Ahmad” ? I asked An ebay rep about it after an easy call to get help with an issue, and they were able to confirm that it was indeed flagging the name “Ahmad.” This means it is flagging compliant listings and this is resulting from use of an “Arabic” or “Muslim” name that happens to occur in Iran among the large group of other countries that also use the name. It also is the name of their current ruler in Iran if I’m not mistaken. But I digress. Does anyone see the potential good that would come from fixing this part of ai program?

OP5 months agoI forgot to add the second item also was from India.
And intro meant to include the name Ahmed shah or similar names occur across wide swaths of land in Central and South Asia as well as the near east. Etc. hope it’s clear enough to get point across
