Email confirmation for an unknown order I did not place
I got an email from an eBay seller I never ordered from, and the eBay order number does not match any orders I have placed. It was a confirmation of an order, with a tracking number, but order number and seller do not match any orders or sellers I have purchased from.

Does the email have anything in it that is connected to your own eBay account or payment method aside from your email address?
Beware blind invoices with links or phone numbers. Scammers often send emails that appear to be invoices showing a large purchase, with a note that says "if this wasn't you, call this number..." The number leads to a scammer who will try to obtain your payment info. Or the email may contain a link that appears to lead to eBay but may lead to a false sign-in page. Any credentials entered into the fake page is given directly to the scammer who may be able to hijack your account if you reveal your username and password.
Never rely on an email or follow any blind links. Sign directly in to your eBay account or your bank account to see if a purchase or charge appears there.
It is also possible that a user with a similar email address has used your email address by mistake for forwarding eBay messages to.

OP9 months agoI posted this because I was worried about all of the possibilities you listed, thus the reason for my concern. The email caught me by surprise and I always make sure to never click on any links in an unknown message like that.
I had to do some additional checks to understand why I got that message, and whether it was legit. An eBay seller I had recently placed an order from, transferred my order to a different vendor who had the item in stock. Then that vendor sent me a thank you, confirmed my order had been shipped, and gave me a tracking number. After I logged in to eBay, I discovered the tracking number matched one of my orders, that’s when I knew what was going on. However, the original seller never notified me that my order was going to be fulfilled by someone else. Perhaps both of the eBay stores were run by the same company or person, I don’t know. This is new to me, and explains why the order number in the message didn’t match any of my outstanding orders. So, mystery solved, nothing lost, but definitely an unexpected incident that I have never had happen before.
