EIS Liquidation Loophole: How to retrieve a vintage collectible returned due to carrier address error?
Summary: infinate.relics is seeking advice on retrieving a rare collectible item stuck in eBay's liquidation process due to an erroneous undeliverable flag caused by an address error. Despite confirming the correct address with the buyer and trying to escalate the issue with customer support, they've faced unhelpful responses and are worried about the item being liquidated. They are specifically asking for success stories or guidance on escalating this within eBay to prevent the destruction or auction of the collectible.
Looking for advice from experienced sellers or Community Managers on how to retrieve an item stuck in the eBay International Shipping (EIS) liquidation pipeline.
The Situation:
Sent a rare, vintage collectible to the domestic EIS hub in Illinois.
The package made it overseas to Spain, but Spain's postal service flagged an address error and initiated a return.
The address on my original order and packing slip is 100% correct—I verified this directly with the buyer, who is a repeat customer with multiple successful deliveries to this address.
Tracking shows the item returned to the EIS facility, but instead of returning it to me or letting me correct the label, eBay has flagged it as "undeliverable" and scheduled it for liquidation.
Customer support has been zero help. I’ve been put on endless holds and hung up on twice today trying to escalate this.
My Question:
Has ANY seller successfully managed to get eBay to physically pull a collectible item from the EIS hub queue and return it to the seller instead of liquidating it? If so, what specific department or escalation channel did you use?
I am trying to protect my buyer, my reputation, and a rare piece from being destroyed or auctioned off by a third-party liquidator over a carrier mistake. Any insights would be appreciated.

One of the benefits/protections of EIS is that once it reaches the HUB eBay is responsible for the item. Part of this is if they get a return they refund the buyer and you keep your money too. There is no obligation to return the item to you since they now own it because basically they paid you for it and can dispose of it any way they want including selling it to try to recoup their payment. There is no way for you to get the item back.
From the EIS policy page (returns section):
When a buyer opens a return, we'll refund your buyer and you'll keep the sale. When the return is received at the eBay International Shipping inspection hub, it will be inspected to make sure it's in the same condition. We'll then issue the refund to the buyer's original payment method, usually within 5 to 7 business days of the item being received at the hub. Returned items and items that couldn't be delivered to the buyer may not be returned to you.
