eBay's Community guidelines give no clear guidance at all!
I tried to post a review of a Blu-ray edition of the movie Scrooge. eBay refused to post the review because it "violated community guidelines." I have read all of eBay's guidelines, and my review seems to violate none of them! Can anyone tell me what the problem is?
Here is my review.
[Title]The VCI and Renown/BFI editions are better products
[start of review] This expensive Blu-ray disc from a Canadian company called MorningStar Emerald derives from a pirated copy of the original movie in its US (not British) version. The picture and sound quality is poor to terrible. Overall, this edition is vastly inferior to either the VCI edition or, best of all, the two Renown/BFI editions. These editions are all available here at eBay.
Note that the Renown editions are the only ones that use the original film elements, not a pirated copy. Unfortunately, the Renown editions are Region 0 PAL DVDs. Only those who own a DVD or Blu-ray device that will play PAL DVDs will be able to enjoy them. The single-disc Renown DVD does NOT come with subtitles, however, whereas the later two-disc Renown DVD set does. The very good VCI edition (Region 1 NTSC) also has subtitles. Although it is somewhat inferior in picture and sound quality to either Renown edition, it is still much, much better than the MorningStar edition reviewed here. [end]

Try posting it with something like "costly" or "overpriced" instead of "expensive" in the first sentence. eBay's bots ignore spaces, so – this is a stretch – the offender might be in "This expensive Blu-ray disc...."

I have taken your suggestion, but thus far, the bots are still thinking—or doing whatever it is they do. Incidentally, I also changed the two occurrences of "pirated" to "unofficial" and "unauthorized" in case pirates now qualify as an official victim group.

OP3 years agoDespite the fact that I simplified my review to the utmost (it's pasted below), eBay continues to say that I have failed to comply with its community content policy. I now believe that what the powers that be are telling me is that they don't want me to post an unfavorable review. If that is the case, eBay is no better than Amazon, where I was banned from reviewing two years ago for similarly unspecified violations of community guidelines. Since I never used vulgar language or ever said anything supportive of Trump [wink], I concluded that I was banned because 90 percent of my reviews were one- and two-star reviews. In other words, as a rule, the things I reviewed tended to be things that I thought were (1) poor in quality and (2) the objects of a great deal of unmerited praise.
Henceforward, I shall keep my opinions to myself.
In closing, I thank you again for taking the time to offer me assistance. I extend the same thanks to gosimus, too.
[Title] The print of the film used for this video is grainy and noisy
[Text] The picture and sound quality is very poor even though the video is costly. Other editions of this 1951 version of Scrooge are much better, and all of the better ones are available from eBay sellers.
