EBay's Artificial Team of Hercule Poirots Supports Felony Fraud
Summary: gdodds58 expressed frustration with eBay's automated system for handling counterfeit merchandise issues, particularly after providing evidence and experiencing counterfeit transactions firsthand. Despite eBay's response that no policy violations were found, gdodds58 reported the issue to the Federal Trade Commission, citing eBay's complicity in selling counterfeit goods. comics-scifi-collectibles acknowledged a common dissatisfaction with eBay's handling of such reports, suggesting that the platform's Money Back Guarantee might be the only recourse. Ultimately, gdodds58 decided to leave the platform due to repeated negative experiences.
I thought it important to post this response from EBay's crack investigative squad of 0s & 1s. Yes, they use A.I. to determine if selling counterfeit merchandise under the pretense that it's authentic, is somehow against EBay's policy. That it is fraud, a felony, and punishable (for a business, which is the case here) with a fine of up to $15 million and prison time seems of little moment to EBay's Artificial Team of Hercule Poirots.
After taking much time to document the problem, back-and-forthing with the seller until he admitted they were counterfeit but most people liked them anyway, researching the problem to assure I was not over-reacting, and after finding the pertinent federal statute, this is what I got back from EBAY.
And my ONLY recourse seems to be to share it with "the eBay community" that eBay's A.I. is so happy I'm a member of. So...that's that.

Mentor1 week ago@gdodds58 You will find that MANY agree with you that the bots do not remove listings that obviously violate policy. Keep in mind that eBay also can not take one persons word that a listing is counterfeit.
The bad sellers will have to be caught by the eBay Money Back Guarantee.

OP1 week agoUnderstood. But when there are many comments from other buyers complaining that the merchandise is counterfeit; when I provide documentation demonstrating the difference between what the product SHOULD look like and what the seller provided; when the seller admits they are fake, but "many people still like them"; I can't imagine a jury of my peers not convicting this recidivist.
I simply need to move to another platform. eBay is done for me. In one month i had a buyer jerk me around for 3 weeks pretending to purchase a rare vase for $1,100 only to realize that he does this all the time. He just jerks people's chains on Ebay. It's how he amuses himself. And when reported to Ebay...nothing. Then at the same time I'm sold two pairs of glasses that are counterfeit from two different sellers. All within 4 weeks. This platform has run it's course.

OP5 days ago · EditedFYI, I've referred the matter to the Federal Trade Commission -- and not limited to seller
I've explained that eBay.com is an active and knowing partner in the sale of counterfeit products online which breaks several state and federal laws. There must be literally tens of thousands of violations a year by/on eBay. I hope this will help the company improve their BOTS.
