Ebay withholding funds with no reason
I have been active on ebay as a buyer for several years now. Recently I started selling on eBay. Despite a proof of delivery and my account verification, my funds have be withhold for several days now. I have talked with customer service for 4 times, talked to a supervisor and nothing. Every customer service agent provides a different story, commits to dates that are not fulfilled. Is that how eBay makes money, by scamming the sellers?

Mentor2 years agoThe item you sold most likely sold for over $1,000. eBay will hold all payments of this amount and greater for 30 days no matter how long the seller has been a member. This has been eBay policy for over a year and not all customer service reps seem to know this. The goal of a customer service rep is to get you off the phone as soon as possible and will not always give totally accurate information in order to get you off the phone.

Your account is pristine … NO feedback of any kind … AND you are listing expensive items. You can expect to experience holds of your funds (for up to 30 days) for a few months yet.
[Sorry, but eBay’s not scamming you. There IS a reason for the holds.]

OP2 years agoYou are ignoring some basic information. Each agent from eBay customer service is providing different information, including a confirmation that the buyer received his goods and satisfied, agent that commits that the payment will be done within 3-6 days from proof of delivery. This is very frustrating and raises the suspicion that eBay is making money from holding funds...

I am very aware of the deficiencies in eBay’s Customer Service … and the tendency of reps to fudge some information they provide when they don’t have an accurate explanation of the issue they are being asked about.
Why do you think I’ve been volunteering answering questions in the eBay Community for 18 years?! 😊
eBay DOES NOT actually have access to held funds … and does not earn interest on that money … but I have no way to prove it to you. ☹ï¸

Ebay has a 30-day Money Back Guarantee for Buyer Purchase Protection. So Buyers have 30 days after delivery to request a refund. Ebay puts all new Sellers funds on hold for up to 30 days to cover a potential return. EBay will release some of those held funds to pay for eBay shipping labels.

According to Ebay: "New or infrequent sellers will experience transaction holds while learning best selling practices. This helps sellers become established and build a strong selling history on eBay. New sellers typically experience holds for up to 30 days, although sometimes it may be longer"
