Nobody can force you to give your Social Security Number (SSN) to eBay.
eBay, however, must comply with the federal laws that apply to them. One of those laws requires eBay to obtain the SSN and/or tax identification number of people who choose to sell on eBay's platform.
If, in turn, you choose not to provide your SSN to eBay, then
eBay is not required to send you any proceeds from anything you sell on eBay's platform.
Without your SSN, eBay will not pay you for your sale. Period.
Depending on the Unclaimed Property laws in the state in which you live, eBay is required to send your proceeds to your state's treasury after some years. Years.
You can then request that your state send your money to you.
You will have to prove to your state that you are, in fact, "danos_66" before the state will release your money.
Your state will probably want your Social Security Number before they will give you your money.
If you won't provide the information that eBay is required by federal law to obtain, then you can't sell on eBay. (Or let me restate...you may be able to sell, but you won't get paid...)
