ebay switched USPS First Class to USPS Ground
Yesterday I listed 14 Blu-rays for sale. I selected USPS First Class mail. The first sale came in and the ship method was changed to USPS Ground Advantage adding considerable expense. There was no option to revert to USPS First Class, I was able to change it to USPS Media Mail at $3.92 but that added $1.37 of expense to a sale priced at $2.99. I've delisted all of the Blu-ray discs. Is this just the way it is or is there some hidden option to retain or reselect the USPS First Class mail option?

In July this year USPS changed First Class for packages to Ground Advantage. It is still a service with tracking which you need for your protection. Media Mail is ONLY for items that qualify for it ... if you try to use it for NON-Media Mail items and the Post Office opens the package for inspection (and yes that happens on Media Mail because a lot of people try to use it to save money) they will charge the recipient for the additional postage due.
USPS First class for letters still exists but that is not a tracked service.

OP2 years agoHi Mr. L., thank you for responding. Still, seems odd that if First Class is not allowed at the point of sale it shouldn't be selectable when creating a listing. Doesn't make sense to me. It simply set me up to either disappoint a buyer or take a loss. I took the loss, but good systems shouldn't do that.

Mentor2 years ago@nedmanjo I completely understand that but some Sellers take a risk for things like Post cards or other items that can go in a First Class envelope with no tracking but don't qualify for eBay's Standard Envelope, which has the equivalent of the old Metered Mail tracking (it's not door to door tracking). eBay gives Sellers flexibility on how to set up their shipping so they have many choices a Seller can select from when they create a listing.
