eBay Standard Shipping
I'm having a high number of sports cards that have not been scanned at all lately during delivery. Does anyone know what's going on or what sellers should do?
When they don't get a scan, it's difficult to get the $20 insurance coverage for lost mail.
A buyer can simply mark the card as "Item Not Received" - keep the card and get a refund from the seller.
It's a tough business model if you're selling lots of cards.

The ESE (eBay Standard Envelope) is Metered mail and the code is only scanned by high speed mail sorting machines with the last scan being as close as one stop upstream of the Post Office that the zip code is in. It is NOT door to door tracking because the code cannot be scanned by Postal clerks or delivery folks.
If a Buyer files a claims with eBay that they did not receive their shipment you refund them through the claim and then pursue a reimbursement from eBay as explained on this Help page: eBay standard envelope | eBay

OP8 months agoThank you for the reply.
I understand how metered mail and the sorting machines work.
I also know how to properly package cards in envelopes.
A higher percentage of envelopes are not getting scanned, which makes it difficult to pursue reimbursement, as it appears the item was never shipped.
I know these cards are mostly being delivered as evidenced by positive feedback and buyer confirmation. However, many buyers are claiming the item is not being delivered.
I’m curious if others are having this same issue and how they’re adjusting.
Thanks for your time.

You are welcome for the time ... while we answer a lot of questions here our volunteer team has not data on the number of successful ESE shipments compared to those that you describe. I also don't know if an eBay CS Rep would have that data either but you can try reaching out to eBay:
Depending on the subject, representative availability and other factors requesting a call back may or may not be possible. Chat or an email may be provided. If you get a Chat box Type “AGENT in the box. You can also contact eBay through Social Media if you have accounts there.
